Song Xi
Song Xi, a 23-year-old female veteran, also a college student at Peking University, shot to game online after singing a song and sharing her stories in a TV program, womenvoice.cn reported on Dec. 19.
In the program, Song sang a song called Flying Red Flag for her comrades-in-arms and shared her stories, touching lots of audiences.
Born in a military family, Song kept the dream of being a soldier since childhood. Despite gaining no support from her parents, Song joined the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy when she was a senior in college.

Song recalled that she once engaged in an escort mission in the Gulf of Aden, when a cargo vessel of Tuvalu was attacked by some unknown pirates. She and her comrades-in-arms spared no effort to save the sailors on the vessel.
“I felt most proud when the sailors said to us ‘Thank you! China,’ holding a Chinese national flag and giving us a thumbs-up,” said Song.
