(People's Daily Online)    15:48, December 12, 2017

Chen Yuan, a 34-year-old woman with cerebral palsy in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, wrote a 130,000-word novel with a single finger, inspiring lots of people, China Disabled Persons’ Federation reported.

Chen could only use the index finger of her left hand to type on the keyboard. Using this method, she finished her full-length novel, Grandma on the Clouds, in three years.

When she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of one, her mother intended to give her up, while her grandma stuck to raising Chen by herself.

Chen’s grandma taught her how to read and basic arithmetic and tried to help her get educational opportunities. However, Chen dropped out of middle school, as she could not keep up with others. Soon after, her grandma passed away from pancreatic cancer. The double blow worsened her condition.

Encouraged by kind-hearted persons, Chen started to recall the days being with her grandma and wrote the novel.

She is now a member of the Writers Association of Sichuan Province. And her novel, published in 2014 and made into a microfilm, won many awards and encouraged lots of people.

“Any state of life has its meaning of existence. Perhaps my coming to the world is to remind others that they are already happy enough,” said Chen.
