The donation is the fruit of a cultural deal signed by Cameroon and China in Yaounde in January 2016.
Cultural cooperation between Cameroon and China continues to grow from strength. This follows the donation on November 2, 2017 of equipment for cultural purposes by the Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon,Wei Wenhua, to the Cameroon Minister of Art and Culture, Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
The Minister described the gift the material worth 32 million FCFA (about 375,055 RMB)
as “further evidence of the fact that culture is the best link to friendship and cooperation between peoples in general, and between Cameroonians and Chinese in particular.” The donated equipment includes computers, musical instruments and theatre performance material.
According to Wei Wenhua, the gift from the Chinese Ministry of Culture is fruit of the visit to Cameroon in January 2017 by the Vice Minister of Culture, Ding Wei. “This gift is proof of the friendship and solidarity of Chinese people towards Cameroonians. I hope the donation will enable the Ministry of Art and Culture to strengthen and promote Cameroonian culture,” the Ambassador stated.
Narcisse Mouelle Kombi said the gift was demonstration of the dynamism of socio-cultural cooperation between the two nations. He added that the material will enable the ministry to improve the quality of performances by artistes and other cultural stakeholders.
