A rare rice variety found in Zhefang Township of Mang City, Dehong Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China’s Yunnan Province, with an average plant height of 2.4 meters, sells for 1,000 yuan (about $150) a kilogram, China News reported on Nov. 6.
In addition to its unique plant height, the quality of the rice is also high, and it was used by the imperial family in ancient China.
Because of its high cost in planting and low yield of 150 kilograms per mu on average, the rice, as one of the highest-quality rice varieties in the world, sells at such a high price.
