China’s grain yield is projected to exceed 600 billion kilograms in 2017, according to China’s Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), China News reported on Oct. 16.
Statistics released by MOA show that China’s grain acreage is expected to reach 1.68 billion mu (112 million hectares) this year, a slight drop compared with last year, while the per unit yield continues to remain stable.
The ministry expects wheat and rice output to increase slightly and that of corn to decrease due to farm structure optimization.
Moreover, the ministry noted that China has made new progress in promoting green agriculture. Zero growth in the use of pesticides and fertilizers has also been promoted in the country.
