Mobile payment contributes most to the rising sense of gain among Chinese people over the past five years, said a report released by the Liaowang Institute, a think tank of Xinhua News Agency in China, cyol.com reported on Oct. 11.
The report shows that Chinese people’s sense of gain in the technological field rose from 50.01 in 2012 to 85.99 in 2017, up 72 percent. China’s progress in information technology contributed as much as 61 percent to the rise, among which mobile payment tops all factors by bringing great convenience to people’s lives.
Chinese people use mobile phones to pay for everything in life, including dining, shopping, and accommodation. In addition, it is available to public services, greatly improving efficiency and quality of governmental public services.
Take Alipay for example, which has been introduced in 357 Chinese cities. Users can choose to pay for utility bills such as electricity, natural gas, and water, take public transportation, and even make an appointment with their doctor online.
In addition, the report pointed out that, China’s technological development and innovation not only yields a stronger sense of gain among Chinese, but also among people around the world through technology export and sharing successful experiences.
The size of China’s mobile payment market was 151.14 billion RMB ($22.97 billion) in 2012, and it skyrocketed to 157 trillion RMB in 2016, 50 times that of the US. The number of mobile payment users in China has hit 511 million by June, 2017, and the figure is still on the rise, according to the report.
