To celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Australia, the 2017 China-Australia short video contest in Queensland will be officially launched on October 1st, 2017.

Initiated by the Consulate General of People’s Republic of China in Brisbane, this contest challenges Australian youths in Queensland to submit a 30 second to three-minute video that captures their understanding and perspective of China.

Regarding the contest’s title, “Koala” represents Australian youths while “Panda” symbolises Chinese elements. Thus, this event will not only enhance the connection between China and Australia, but also promote Australia’s understanding of China and Chinese culture.

Simultaneously, by showcasing Queensland’s enticing landscapes, unique cultures and the connection amongst Queenslanders, these video submissions will help promote Queensland to Chinese people and attract more tourists, students, etc.

The event will be conducted in two stages. During the first stage, candidates will post their videos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat to depict China through their eyes. Content can include a trip to China, a Chinese memory, a Chinese activity, a phenomenon in Australia, a personal account related to China or his/her Chinese talents.

The video can be filmed with mobile phones or professional devices and can be produced individually or with friends. 4 individual productions will be selected by professional judges as winners and each production will win 1000AUD cash prize.

During the second stage, the 4 winning productions will be promoted on China’s popular social media platforms where 1 final winner will be voted as the “Most Popular in China” award. The winner will be invited to China for a cultural exchange trip.

All participants need to do is to post their video on their own social media accounts with the hashtag #whenkoalameetspanda and @ the event’s official accounts.
