A delivery company in east China was fined thousands of yuan for violating China’s Counter Terrorism Law and encouraging drug trafficking, said the official WeChat account of Shuyang Police on Sept. 25.
The criminal surnamed Liu started an illegal methamphetamine delivery service from April 2017, according to local police handling Liu’s case on Aug. 5.
Three service stations of a delivery company in Suqian are responsible, as they failed to inspect goods and identities of senders in accordance with guidelines, creating an opening for drug traffickers.
Local postal administration on Sept. 25 imposed a fine of 150,000 yuan (over $22,000) on the company and 10,000 yuan (about $1500) on each executive. Local police said those involved should be punished for lacking legal consciousness and violating the counter-terrorism law.
This case is a warning for the express delivery industry. Delivery companies are required to fulfill duties in case of any illegal act, and this is the first fine on a company in Suqian, east China’s Jiangsu province, since the law took effect in 2016, according to local police.
