Some 40 cities in China recently launched a government affairs service using facial recognition, thereby bringing much convenience to the public, Economic Information Daily reported on August 16.
The service that was launched in Nanjing enables people to check out the payment of their individual income tax by using facial recognition on Alipay.
Yun Jie from the Chinese Academy of Sciences noted that the combination of "Internet Plus" with government affairs service meets the requirement of transformation into a service-oriented government. He added that the facial recognition service brings much convenience to the public.
In addition, the expert says combining with platforms such as Alipay and WeChat will effectively cut the cost of developing government service platforms.
