Leading Chinese gaming developer Yoozoo Games announced at China Joy 2017 that it has been authorized to develop “Game of Thrones” mobile games together with American company Warner Brothers.

It is the first time for Home Box Office (HBO) to give game adaptation rights for the series to a Chinese company.

According to Cui Rong, Yoozoo’s chief creative officer, the war strategy game would feature the Houses of Westeros. The interactions of each character would be displayed in detail beside their personal titles and different-period clothing.

Cui said they would focus on the theatrical atmosphere rather than cool effects such as fire balls, lightning strikes, or whirlwind attacks. “We want to combine action and scenes creatively to make our users experience the world.”

“We finished the research stage early and the story’s world is already being constructed,” Cui said.

Game of Thrones has attracted record viewership on HBO and has a huge international fan base. The series has received a record 38 Primetime Emmy Awards. The series gained more than 600 viewers after it was introduced to China by Tencent.

Chen Libiao, CEO of Yoozoo, said China has the biggest game market in the world. Quoted by Chen, entertainment cooperation between China and other countries is maturing and laying an industrial foundation for local game makers.
