The Guangdong government recently launched a plan to finish testing 4K channels by the end of this year, according to Nanfang Daily.
The 4K TV industry is expected to be a 600-billion-yuan industry, according to the report, which could drive more than 100-billion-yuan in investment on the construction of broadband networks.
The immaturity of 4K channels can hinder the development of 4K TV. Promoting the tests of 4K channels can help consumers experience the ultra-clear television as early as possible.
4K TVs are equipped with an ultra-HD screen with a resolution that is twice as great as ordinary 2K TVs. The ultra clarity allows people to see fine details and makes them feel like they are part of the scene.
Qiao Yueshan, the deputy commissioner for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Electric Information Department said the boom of 4K television was another revolution in broadcasting after digital TV and high-definition TV. “It’s a large market,” Qiao said.
Guangdong, an economic hub in southern China, has a mature TV industry and is home to leading enterprises such as TCL, Konka, and Skyworth, forming a complete industrial chain, including chips, panels, and other parts. Recent years have seen breakthroughs on key 4K technology.
The report said Guangdong’s next step is to promote programming and build a 4K digital demonstration zone in 3 to 5 years.
