A 70-year-old woman from Jiande, eastern China's Zhejiang province, planned to give her lifetime savings to a policeman who has taken care of her for the past three years, but the policeman, Huang Huan, declined the offer, saying that he has just done what any policeman would do.
About three years ago, Wang noticed the woman, surnamed Wang, who lived near the police station where he works. She always sat at the curbside until midnight, so Huang talked to her and listened to her stories.
Wang is divorced with a 40-year-old son who is single and jobless. He had once been arrested for theft in 2014. After he was released from detention, he remained idle and relied on her for money.
After hearing her story, Huang started helping the woman, visiting her on holidays and buying daily necessities for her. Impressed, she accepted him as a close friend.
One day in 2014, she offered to give Huang all of her savings, saying he has taken a good care of her, even more so than her own son.
Huang said he was surprised when found out that Wang has saved about 100,000 RMB. He politely rejected her offer, saying he was just doing his duty as a policeman.
