Golden shared bikes launch in major Chinese cities

By Du Xiaofei (People's Daily Online)    16:54, June 08, 2017

The competition between shared bike companies has become increasingly stiff since last year, when investors identified an untapped market full of potential for huge returns. This may explain why, after so many shared bikes in a veritable rainbow of colors have rolled into service, the gold-colored Coolqi bike still hopes to have a finger in the pie.

On the morning of June 8, a netizen from Hangzhou shared a picture of golden shared bikes on the sidewalk outside the Dongpo Road campus of Tianchang Primary School. The bikes, released by bike sharing service CoolQi, instantly attracted the attention of passersby with their bright sheen. Among other amenities, the bikes boast three different types of chargers for Apple and Android phones, as well as a phone holder that can accommodate an iPhone 6 Plus.

Coolqi bikes can be found in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Xi’an. They require a deposit of 298 RMB, and a half hour of use costs 1.5 RMB, slightly higher than the average market price. Although people have shown great interest in the bike's appearance, most people have so far refrained from renting the bikes to actually take them for a ride.
