An O2O charity supermarket opened in Shanghai on June 6, the first of its kind to open in China.
The supermarket, located in the city's Jing'an district, provides discounts between 50 and 30 percent on its many products, which are all donated. Customers can make purchases not only in the shop but also online, where even more products are on offer.
"All products are donated by charity organizations, enterprises and sometimes individuals ... The prices in the online store are also lower than those on some online shopping sites," said a supermarket employee.

Donations are required to be at least 90 percent new. For instance, clothes with stains that cannot not be removed are not accepted. The supermarket also rejects fake brands or products that were illegally obtained.

Some of the employees at the supermarket are physically disabled. A deaf employee uses hand gestures and hand-written signs to guide customers. Another handicapped employee works as a cashier.
The charity supermarket will be gradually promoted across Jing'an. The store does not pay rent for its space, as the storefront is provided by local authorities for free.
