Vehicle sun-shield stickers draw eyes in China with unique designs

By Jiang Jie (People's Daily Online)    16:56, May 24, 2017

As summer approaches and temperatures rise in most parts of China, "sun-proof" car stickers have hit the market to help drivers keep their cars cool. While most shine like aluminum foil, others sport funny or scary images.

A citizen in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on May 22 spotted Vin Diesel inside a minibus parked on the street. Of course, as the vehicle model was far too shabby to be part of the Fast and Furious franchise, the citizen soon realized it was just a car sticker with Vin Diesel's image.

"But it looked so real, I was shocked," the citizen wrote.

After the post was reported by Qianjiang Evening News, more netizens began to post photos of different car stickers, including one of ghost-like figures stuck to the rear window of a car.

A search on Taobao reveals many shops selling the car stickers, and almost all boast that they can customize such stickers in accordance with customers' preferences. Many of the pre-made images are scary ones, including figures from the horror movie "Ju-on: The Grudge."

According to the shops, such stickers look especially clear on rear windows when the car behind turns on its high beams.

"Let's give those high-beam drivers a surprise!" reads one advertisement.

China, however, bans stickers and other accessories that can affect a driver's field of vision from the front and rear windows. Those who violate the law face a fine of up to 200 RMB.
