Peking University will establish medical and business centers in Xiong’an New Area, located in Hebei province, in an effort to support the central government’s plan to develop the region.
“[We] will utilize our resources, providing support to the new area in the fields of medicine and education, as well as sending talents to the region,” said Hao Ping, chairman of Peking University Council, at a conference held on May 11.
According to Hao, Peking University will establish a medical center in the new area, which will serve as a platform for scientific research, medical education and medical services. The university will also build a business center to help train local entrepreneurs and management personnel.
“Along with other prestigious universities, Peking University will deploy its outstanding educational resources in the new area, as well as strengthen its cooperation with local government, in an effort to provide intellectual support for the new area’s construction,” said Hao.
Development of the future satellite region to the southwest of Beijing will help ease the strain on resources in China's capital. It has been described as “crucial for a millennium to come.”
