Wang Hongmei and Liu Xin, an elderly couple in Zhengzhou, Henan province, have a unique way of showing off their love. The couple has run marathons together for the past 10 years.

According to a report by local television station Henan TV, Wang has been a devoted fan of the Zhengkai Marathon since 2007. The Zhengkai Marathon began in 2006, and it is the only marathon in China to connect two ancient capitals, Zhengzhou and Kaifeng.

For most people, running is a way of keeping healthy, and Wang is no exception. Born in 1948, Wang began to suffer from heel bone hyperplasia before retirement. She had to walk with a cane because of the discomfort. Wang spent a great deal of money and tried many remedies to cure the disease, but nothing worked. She also had high blood pressure and several other small health issues.

A friend told Wang that walking was good for preventing the growth of bone spurs. This comment started Wang on a new life path. In 2007, she participated in her first Zhengkai International Marathon, and she hasn't missed one since. Running has greatly improved Wang's physical health. Now, she runs more than 10 kilometers a day.

Wang's passion for running gradually spread to her husband, Liu, who joined her several years later. For the couple, running marathons is not only exercise but a way of deepening their love for one another. In 2015, the couple celebrated their 40th anniversary. Their children made them a poster in honor of the occasion, and Wang and Liu clutched the poster as they crossed the finish line of that year's marathon.

"It's a commemoration of our 40th anniversary. We also want to remind young couples to cherish [their relationships]," the couple explained to the media. Wang and Liu have now participated in more than 70 marathons in China and abroad. They have traveled to many places together.

"I want to run with her till our golden anniversary," said Liu.
