A new type of rove beetle has been discovered at the Shanghai Zoo. Professors have already confirmed that this is the first time the insect has been seen in Shanghai, but they can't say for sure whether the insect lives exclusively in Shanghai. The body of the beetle has three parts: head, chest and belly. It has two pairs of wings and three pairs of feet.
A total of 65,000 kinds of rove beetle, a small predatory beetle that inhabits layer of soil, have been discovered around the world. China has reported over 6,000 varieties, though only 60 of those have been in Shanghai. Experts predict that is due to the lack of an appropriate ecosystem, coupled with urbanization and a lack of research on species diversity.
