Qian Yunxing |
Qian Yunxing, a teenaged girl in the city of Bazhong, Sichuan province, used to be known simply as "running girl" among her schoolmates and teachers.
In 2002, when Qian was 5 years old, her father was paralyzed in an accident. Qian began to cook his meals and take care of him when she was just 6 years old. Once she started junior high, she began to run back and forth between her home and school so she could serve her father three meals a day. She completed the sprint eight times each day, which meant a daily distance of 10 kilometers.
In 2015, Qian was admitted to Tongjiang High School. The school exempted her from tuition fees and offered her a stipend of 1,000 RMB a year. The local government also arranged for her father, Qian Haoyuan, to live in a rehab center. That way, she no longer needed to worry about his daily needs and medical treatment.
Due to a heavy work load at school, Qian visits her father in the rehab center every two weeks. She said she hopes to be admitted to a good university, and to one day accompany her father on a trip all around China.
In February 2017, Qian was given the title of "Most Beautiful High School Student" in China by CYL the Central Committee and the All-China Students' Federation in recognition of the meticulous care she provided for her father.
