Atuleer, a village on a cliff in Sichuan's Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, is poised to become a popular new tourism site.
According to thecover.cn, a tourism group based in Chengdu is planning to turn the village--which boasts rich natural scenery including canyons, karst caves, hot springs and forests--into a scenic spot using an investment of 300 million RMB.
According to the tourism administration in Zhaojue County, the first phase of the project has already begun: construction of a tourist center, cable-stayed bridge and other facilities. Cable cars and a resort will be included in the second phase.

For Mosezigu, party secretary of the village, developing the area's tourism potential is key to helping villagers shake off poverty.
"We will build a village featuring traditional Yi customs where visitors will be able to experience the unique charm of the Yi nationality," he said.
The village had received little public attention until May 2016, when media reported that children from the village had to climb a rattan ladder to get to school each day. In August 2016, construction of a steel ladder started in the village, using funds from the prefecture and county. The new ladder used 40 tons of steel, which was sprayed with an anti-rust agent in order to preserve the ladder for 10 to 20 years of use. The ladder shortens the commute up the cliff by half an hour, and offers better protection to the villagers.
