The management of the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) says it has fully restored the electrical power to the Aeronautical Ground Lighting systems at the Roberts International Airport (RIA).

In a press release, LAA said the restoration of the system on Wednesday February 8, 2017, followed intense repair works on the affected portion of cabling, which developed a glitch during the past week.

The Notice to Airman (NOTAM) for a shift in flight schedules elapsed at about 1800HRS on Wednesday February 8, 2017, which means airlines will resume their usual arrival and departure times, as it was prior to the incident.

LAA Management commended engineers for the rigorous work done to restore the system to full operation; describing it as a ‘service to country’.

The LAA also thanked the Government of Liberia, airlines and partners for the level of assistance and cooperation accorded the teams during the course of the repair works.

“The current Runway Rehabilitation Project, which includes the Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) systems, will provide a long term solution and replace the current system that is over 30 years old,” the release added.

The Management also recognized and appreciated the assistance of its counterparts, Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) for seconding an AGL Specialist who collaborated with Liberian engineers and electricians from the LAA/RIA and LCAA to resolve the issue.
