On Jan. 23, the Spring Festival travel rush saw a new high for the year as the festival draws closer, Xinhuanet.com reported.
The Ministry of Transport estimated that more than 83 million passengers were transported on Jan. 23 alone. Passenger flow at 26 key transportation hubs increased by about 32 percent compared with on Jan. 13, the first day of the travel rush.
In fact, during the first 11 days of the rush, from Jan. 13 to 23, the national railway, highway, waterway and civil aviation networks transported a total of 840 million passengers, which comes out to year-on-year increases of 18.3 percent, 0.73 percent, 7.3 percent and 16.4 percent respectively. To meet the growing demand, railways accomodated an extra 756 passenger trains on Jan. 23, or approximately 9.2 million passengers.
In addition, China’s railway network took various measures to better serve passengers, like offering medical services at stations and making extra room for pregnant women and children.
