A music video of a foreigner singing about his love for Chinese hot pot has recently gone viral online.
The video clip, lasting just over three minutes, shows a group of foreigners enjoying hot pot, including one man named Ramon who has been living in Chengdu for 12 years. The entire group faces the camera, singing enthusiastically. It took the group a full year to produce the video, with Ramon writing the lyrics and Bodo, a friend of Ramon's from Germany, composing the music.
A local Chinese singer also rapped in the video using the local dialect, and names of local landmarks were included in the song. Ramon said both he and his wife are big fans of hot pot. They always bring hot pot seasoning to the U.S. and U.K. when they visit their families; in this way, they are able to share their favorite Chinese foods with their loved ones.
Ramon also expressed his appreciation for life in Chengdu, saying he would love for his children to study Chinese in the future.
Below are the song lyrics:
Boiling and bubbling
It's boiling and bubbling
So perfectly brewed
All spicy and red for you
It's got the lajiao and the huajiao too, the hao you, suanxiang and the cu
Put in some dongua, xiajiao
Some yue lan pien, a little zhusuan, xiang dofu with a few mogu
Hen hao chi when i eat with you
Boiling and bubbling
…
Hot pot, hot pot, wo yao hot pot
Hot pot, hot pot, wo ai hot pot
Hot pot, hot pot, you know, hot pot
Hot pot hen hao chi
…
Give me some qingsuan, some mao du, some dofu pi
A little baijiu some pijiu, meiguo fei niu is good for me
A little yang rou for my quaizi, to dig out of this stew
Cause there's nowhere i would rather be than having hot pot with you
