Chenghuang Temple, the oldest temple in Jinan, Shandong province, has been reinvented as rental housing, Thepaper.com reported on Jan. 18.
The temple was first built in 1369 with a total area of 3,600 square meters. It is the largest Chenghuang Temple in Jinan, and also the first cultural relic preservation site in the city.
A man surnamed Yin has witnessed 60 years of changes to the temple. According to him, it used to be a boisterous place, where performances were staged to celebrate the birthday of Chenghuang, the city's god. However, the temple was poorly maintained and has been turned into rental housing in the past decade, and part of the roof may collapse at any time.
