At the start of 2017, Chinese naval forces conducted training sessions in freezing weather to test their response and combat capability. The drills were conducted in the Yellow Sea, East China Sea, South China Sea and Gulf of Aden. From Jan. 11 to 12, the North Sea Fleet drilled in the waters of the Yellow Sea, despite the fact that temperatures dipped to 10 degrees C below zero. The soldiers completed six live-fire training missions and more than 10 equipment drills. Before the training began, the North Sea Fleet set up an assessment group, which provided the scientific basis for the exercises.
