Sanitation workers in the Erqi district of Zhengzhou recently received high heels as part of their employee benefits, triggering hot online debate, according to Xinhua. The workers said they were originally expecting to receive warm shoes, and the actual gifts were very unexpected.
"Everyone got women's shoes. How can a sanitation worker sweep the ground while wearing high heels?" some asked.
Their company said it received a large number of donated shoes, face masks and gloves, which were intended to be distributed to sanitation workers. But due to the staff's negligence, some workers did not receive the proper items. Based on workers' feedback, the company contacted the enterprise that donated the goods to replace some of the items. The exchange is still underway, as the number of workers involved is quite large.
The enterprise has apologized to the sanitation workers. It promised to distribute more proper items soon. According to the publicity department of the district government, this offering will not have any influence on government subsidies for the sanitation workers.
