More than 150 warm-hearted people have donated over 50,000 ml of blood to a 29-year-old woman suffering from massive postpartum blood loss since Dec. 27, Thepaper.cn reported on Jan. 2.
Meng Qinglei, the woman's husband, told Thepaper.cn that his wife felt great pain after her cesarean section, which was closely followed by a cardiac arrest. Her heart resumed beating after 30 minutes of electric shock defibrillation, and she was sent to the ICU to receive a hysterectomy, which was intended to stem the hemorrhaging. However, the woman continued bleeding anyway.
“All the [hospital's] blood was running out, even stock transferred in from Shihezi, Kuytun and Urumqi. She just kept bleeding,” said Meng.
Fortunately, many people came to donate blood after the woman's sister posted about the situation on social media.
“More than 150 people donated over 50,000 ml blood within just two days,” said an employee of the Shihezi blood donation station.
Meng said his wife has already receives transfusions of over 10,000 ml, though she is still in the ICU. He added that her life truly depends on donated blood, as she has not yet stopped bleeding. Even doctors are unsure how much blood she may need. Nevertheless, Meng felt very grateful for the immense help offered by so many caring people.
