After learning that several of his organs were failing, Wu, 92, decided to give up treatment so he could see his wife before he died. Wu's wife was receiving treatment for a femoral fracture at the same hospital as her husband in Yinzhou, Zhejiang province. Assigned to a room on the hospital's third floor, Wu's wife was unable to walk because of her injury. Instead, she was rolled in her bed to her husband's room on the 14th floor. Lying side by side with her husband, unaware of his prognosis, Wu's wife said to her beloved: "I will take care of myself and see you as soon as I get better."
