On the morning of Dec. 14, 6-year-old Shi Haiqing got married in Tai'an, Shandong province. The twist? The groom was her father, Shi Xinzhan, and the ceremony was held in a ward, with only doctors, nurses and other patients as guests.
Haiqing, wearing her favorite princess skirt, entered the ward hand in hand with her father to the tune of the Wedding March.
In April, Haiqing was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, and has since embarked on the long road of treatment. Forced to take hormones for the past three months, Haiqing gained 6 kilograms, dramatically altering her appearance. Moreover, the adrenal crisis caused a series of hard-to-control symptoms, and the hospital issued two “critically ill” notices to the girl's parents within 10 days.
Haiqing's father said that nothing is sadder than parents missing their daughter's wedding. Thus, with the assistance of nurses at the hospital, Shi decided to give his daughter a special wedding, in which the beautiful "Princess Haiqing” married her devoted dad.
