A man and woman recently plotted a sleepover in Beijing's Siyuanqiao IKEA store, planning to webcast the entire adventure. Unfortunately, their plans were ultimately foiled by the store’s security personnel.
On the evening of Dec. 3, Mr. Zhao and his companion came to the store and began to webcast. At 9:56 p.m. when the store was about to close, Zhao hid in a wardrobe and continued the webcast.
According to some viewers of the webcast, security guards found and removed Zhao at around 10:20 p.m. Police officers later arrived to handle the incident. During this period, Zhao's smart phone was still on. Although nothing was visible, his conversation with the police officer was still audible. Later, the phone was finally turned off at the request of the officer.
"We just wanted the experience, but definitely had no ill intentions," Zhao said, adding that their idea was inspired by some foreigners who stayed overnight in other IKEA stores. Zhao's account on the webcast platform has since been blocked, and he has apologized to the IKEA store.
