A gorgeous lobster weighing more than 1.7 kilograms was recently captured by a fisherman surnamed Zhou in Ningde, a coastal city in southeastern China's Fujian province.
The lobster is more than 1 meter in length, and its beautiful coloring is undeniably eye-catching. Neither Zhou nor his crew had ever seen such a lobster.
According to an employee of Zhejiang Mariculture Research Institute, the creature might be an ornate spiny lobster. However, the classification cannot be confirmed or denied without in-person observation. Ornate spiny lobsters are the largest variety of lobster. They have colorful shells and are distributed along coastal areas of Zhejiang province.
"Even wild lobsters are rare now, let alone ornate spiny lobsters," said the owner of a local seafood restaurant.
A similar lobster was captured two years ago in Wenling, Zhejiang province. That lobster was later sold for 600,000 RMB ($86,710).
