The number of vehicles in China has reached 280 million, with 350 million registered drivers. The new figures were released at the premiere of a public service announcement (PSA) about traffic safety, held on Nov. 23.
Covering five major traffic violations, including red light-running, speeding and drunk driving, the PSA was filmed by a research center for traffic safety under the Ministry of Public Security. It reproduces common traffic accidents in a realistic style, reminding audiences of the tragic consequences.
General safety awareness is still lacking for many Chinese people, and driving habits are also often a reflection of ethics. The PSA aims to encourage Chinese citizens to show more respect for life and laws.
