Chinese carmaker unveils world's fastest electric supercar

On Nov. 21, Chinese electric carmaker NextEV unveiled its EP9 model at the Saatchi Gallery in London, along with its NIO brand and logo.

EP9 is reportedly the world's fastest electric supercar, with the speediest lap time for an electric vehicle (EV) at the Nürbhurgring Nordschliefe test track in Germany, one of the most famous proving grounds for supercars around the world. The EP9 also beat the EV record at France’s Circuit Paul Ricard by about 50 seconds.

"We're eager to show our technology as a start-up company," said Qin Lihong, co-founder of NextEV.

The first batch of NextEV cars will come onto the market in the next few months. In addition, the company has already started research and development of its second model, tailored exclusively to the Chinese market. According to Li Bin, CEO of NextEV , the company will cooperate with other carmakers in China for production, rather than building new factories.

NextEV is often compared to Tesla. However, Li explained that Tesla is a product of the last generation of electric vehicles, while NextEV represents the new generation. He promised to present a whole new user experience in terms of both technology and human-car interaction. In addition, he said that NextEV products will be much less expensive than Tesla vehicles, as NextEV is targeting consumers in a variety of first- and second-tier cities in China.
