Shanghai (People's Daily Online) – The Shanghai Declaration, an important outcome of the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, was officially adopted by participants of the conference in the afternoon of Nov. 21.
The moment was witnessed by Chinese Minister of National Health and Family Planning Commission Li Bin, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan and Executive Vice Mayor of Shanghai Ying Yong.
According to the declaration, health and wellbeing are essential to achieving sustainable development. Participants of the conference will promote health through action on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making bold political choices for health. The declaration advocates healthy city development, multi-sectoral action, social mobilization and health literacy.
The Shanghai Declaration on Health Promotion will guide the next phase of work in global health and enlarge the role of health in the UN Sustainable Development Agenda by 2030.
