On Nov. 9, a mentally handicapped man in Guangdong province was given a part-time job as an honorary firefighter. The job grants Chen Xiaojun access to the fire-fighting equipment that has fascinated him for the past 12 years.
Chen, from the city of Jiangmen, has been enlisted to help maintain and clean said equipment, earning a monthly salary based on his performance. Chen was thrilled to be given the job; for him, it was a dream came true. Every week since 2004, Chen has come to the fire station to examine the equipment. He knows extensive information about every item, including where it was manufactured.
