China’s Kekexili reserve to build 'kingdom for wild animals'

Kekexili National Nature Reserve, one of China’s largest reserves, has increased its efforts to crack down on animal poaching and other illegal behavior. With this goal in mind, the reserve has been increasing patrols since the beginning of this year, with the ultimate aim of building a “kingdom for wild animals.”

The park plans to create more than a dozen mountain patrol routes and 400 extra rounds of patrol within this year. One protection station in Kekexili already saved four Tibetan antelopes and two gazelles.

As one major focus of national biodiversity protection, Tibetan antelopes are a dominant species in the nature reserve. Thanks to efforts made by the reserve's administration and staff, the number of Tibetan antelope poaching cases has declined over the years. No gun has been fired in the area since 2006.
