'Panda high-speed train' unveiled in Jilin

(People's Daily Online)    16:09, November 14, 2016

CRH5E, China's first high-speed train with sleeper cars, was unveiled in Changchun, Jilin province on Nov. 11. The train can travel at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour. It has been nicknamed the "panda high-speed train" due to the way its headlights resemble a giant panda’s dark eye circles.

The train's seats are capable of converting from sleepers into regular chairs, which allows it to operate during the daytime and at night. In order to make travelers as comfortable as possible, the train utilizes sound and shock absorption, as well as sound insulation to minimize the sounds of standard operation. Even when the train runs at full speed, the noise inside is limited to 65 decibels, which is 20 decibels lower than in a flying airplane.

Additionally, the train is able to operate reliably at high altitudes and in cold weather, as well as in windy and sandy environments. For the sake of security, the train is equipped with updated fault diagnosis and remote control systems, which monitor the temperature, pressure and insulation of key segments. The built-in systems also automatically modify the train’s speed according to figures set in advance.

Wi-Fi is available in each compartment of the train so that travelers can surf the Internet during their travels.
