

A full-sized stadium is going to be built on the roof of Jing'an Stadium in downtown Shanghai. This new roof stadium, which will be 16,253 square meters, will host both formal soccer matches and training sessions.
Jing'an Stadium covers an area of 61,733.8 square meters, and its total construction area is 87,544 square meters (including the roof stadium). Specifically, the ground floor is 44,880 square meters, which includes a 5,600-seat multifunctional gymnasium as well as the roof stadium.
The multifunctional gymnasium houses two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, four tennis courts, 16 table tennis courts, 20 badminton courts and a natatorium. The roof stadium, constructed on top of the gymnasium, contains six tracks and a standard soccer field with 750 seats. The underground area is 26,410 square meters, including a garage for 410 vehicles.
Jing'an Stadium is mainly used for competitions, training and fitness. According to the Jing'an Sports Administration, they aim to create at least 10 new public playgrounds, 10 fitness tracks and several fitness clubs during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.
