A father named Gao Xinmin from Lin County, Shanxi province is raising money for his daughter's medical expenses by collecting dates along cliffs, Chinanews.com reported.

Gao's 5-year-old daughter, Gao Hongyu, suffers from congenital hemangioma in perineum, which causes her severe pain during defecation. Though she has received therapies for the condition, her poverty-stricken family is unable to afford additional treatments.

Gao Hongyu's mother left her when she was only an infant, and Gao has supported the family on only his income ever since. Having already spent 20,000 RMB ($2,944)on treatment, Gao is now being asked to pay another 50,000 RMB to cure his daughter, which for him is an astronomical sum.

In order to raise money for the treatment, Gao decided to collect dates on the cliffs near his hometown. Usually, he can collect several dozen kilograms of dates per day, earning about 100 RMB. In addition, he also works at construction sites to make extra money.

"I would do anything to save my daughter," said Gao. However, given his income, Gao would need to work for eight more years to collect enough money. He said that he will go to work full time when his daughter grows older, allowing him to make more money and cure his daughter sooner.
