The town of Yulmed is located on the southern slopes of the Himalaya mountain range. It belongs to Longzi County in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is also the most sparsely populated administrative town of China. Because of the town's unique geography and location, part of locals' daily life is guarding the territory.
Yulmed covers an area of 1,976 square kilometers. It contains only one village, which has nine households totaling 32 people. However, despite its small population, Yulmed is not as poor and backward as many imagine. The town has actually enjoyed relative prosperity, as the regional government has sent cadres and doctors, built roads, and established power stations and clinics for Yulmed's residents. In 2015, the average disposable income of local farmers and herders reached 26,000 RMB (about $3,844).
