The 11th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition officially opened in Zhuhai, Guangdong province on Nov. 1. As an event that gathers various powerful aircraft, the air show attracts attention from all over the world. Here are the top 10 most anticipated highlights of this year’s event.
No. 1
Debut of China's new stealth fighter J-20
A flying demonstration using the J-20, China’s fifth-generation jet fighter, will be carried out during the air show, according to Shen Jinke, spokesperson of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force. It will be the public debut of the domestically built aircraft. As a rival of the American F-22, the J-20 will serve to improve the fighting capability of the PLA Air Force.

RAF Red Arrows fly in China for the first time
The Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows aerobatics team, coming from the U.K., is scheduled to perform at the annual air show, marking the team’s first time flying in China. Along with the Red Arrows, China’s Bayi Aerobatics Team, Russia’s Warriors and Swifts aerobatics groups, and the FC-1 team from Pakistan will also perform at the event.

Flying and static display of military transport aircraft Y-20
A demonstration flight of the military transport aircraft Y-20 will be carried out during the air show. In addition, the plane will be on static display for the first time, providing the public with an opportunity to see the behemoth up close. The Y-20 is able to fly from the south end to the north end of China's territory.

Display of bomber H-6K
The long-range strategic bomber H-6K, an improved version of the H-6, is a PLA Air Force pioneer. With an operational range of 5,000 kilometers and multiple means of long-range strikes, the aircraft is able to defeat enemies from a distance. The bomber will be a major attraction of the air show.

First public exhibition of CM-302 supersonic anti-ship missile
The CM-302, a high-precision supersonic anti-ship missile developed by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), will also be exhibited for the first time at the air show. Able to be operated on various platforms, the missile is a powerful weapon against medium-sized and large battleships, as well as a favored defense for coastal countries.

New airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) plane KJ-500
Combining the strengths of the KJ-2000 and KJ-200, the new AEW&C aircraft KJ-500 features long-range detection, strong anti-interference, long-distance cruising and heightened flexibility. The KJ-500 is able to detect and control complex air and marine battles.

Exhibition of JY-27A air surveillance and guidance radar
Developed by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, the JY-27A is a state-of-the-art meter wave band 3-D long-range air surveillance radar capable of detecting stealth aircraft and guided missiles.

Debut of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)
Various domestically manufactured UAVs will be exhibited at the air show, including the Rainbow series by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, a solar-powered UAV and ground-effect vehicles. In addition, the unmanned combat air vehicles Pterodactyl I and Pterodactyl II will also be on display.

Armored ground vehicle demonstration
A demonstration of more than 10 armored ground vehicles, including a VT-4 main battle tank and a VN-12 caterpillar infantry combat vehicle, will be carried out during the event on in a demonstration area about the size of 10 football fields.

Introduction of wide-body jet airliner Airbus A350
The arrival of the long-range, wide-body jet airliner Airbus A350 is another major highlight of the Zhuhai air show. According to Hou Yu, vice president of sales for Airbus China , the A350-900 and A350-1000 can cover a range of up to 15,000 kilometers. In addition, the ultra-long-range version A350-900ULR can fly for up to 19 hours non-stop, allowing Chinese airlines to offer direct flights to Australia, Europe and North America.
