The daily life of the two Chinese astronauts onboard the Tiangong-2 space lab was revealed on Oct. 23. While in the lab, Jing Haipeng and Chen Dong can not only watch live CCTV news in the Tiangong-2 experiment module, they can also conduct a variety of experiments while in orbit, such as those relating to brain capacity and emotional characteristics.
According to Wu Dawei, a director at the Chinese Astronaut Research and Training Center, the crew on Earth uploads real-time news and even the astronauts’ favorite shows to the space lab throughout the mission. In addition, the astronauts are also able to make video calls and send e-mails to their loved ones back home.
For one experiment, Jing and Chen wear a device on their heads to test brain capacity in orbit, which in turn verifies the adaptability of brain-computer interaction in space. Another experiment is related to the cultivation of lettuce. The growth cycle of lettuce is 30 days, which is about the number of days the two astronauts will stay in space. They have therefore been tasked with researching the conduction and control of water and nutrient supply in a microgravitational environment.
