A young man in Nanchang, Jiangxi province has become a millionaire by hosting broadcasts of online games. The man, named Yuan Xin, attracts an average of 500,000 viewers every day.
Yuan began to play the game "League of Legends" as a junior in college. Gradually, he gained a reputation in the game for his excellent skills. In his last year of college, he ranked in the top 10 among millions of players in China.
Despite having majored in finance management, Yuan ultimately chose to host an online game broadcast after graduation. He established his own studio with 20,000 RMB given to him by his parents, and officially started his career.
Unfortunately, within half a year, Yuan ran out of money. But before he gave up his dream, something happened to dramatically alter the landscape of livestreaming in China thanks to Amazon's August 2014 acquisition of Twich, a livestreaming platform, China's streaming industry began expanding rapidly, which soon made Yuan a hot commodity on streaming platforms. Only a year after graduation, his yearly income reached more than 1 million RMB.
Yuan said it would have been impossible for him to make so much money if he had selected another profession. Indeed, he believes he could have been even more successful if he had skipped college altogether and devoted more time to online games.
Xia Xianzhong, an employee of a local human resources department, noted that there's no absolute standard for success. He remarked that making money is not the only reason for young people to attend college. Their experiences in university can also improve their cognitive abilities, as well as their communication and social skills, Xia added. He suggests that the students who want to start a career in e-broadcasting should put together a long-term plan.
