On Oct. 16, four foreign tourists became lost on an abandoned part of the Great Wall in Beijing's Huairou district. After six hours, Huairou firefighters came to their rescue, escorting them to safety.
Eleven firefighters responded to the emergency. They were led by a friend of the lost tourists, eventually coming across the unlucky group early the next morning. By then, one Canadian woman was already exhibiting symptoms of low blood sugar. The rescuers distributed mineral water to the tourists before escorting them down the hill.
The four tourists, originally part of a group of seven, became separated from the rest of their party when it got dark outside.
