A new documentary about China’s anti-graft campaign has been praised by Chinese media and the public for its detailed interviews with corrupt officials and "profound analysis.” The documentary is the country’s latest move to tackle corruption.

First broadcast on CCTV on Oct. 17, the documentary "Always on the Road" was an immediately hit. The show, which features the public confessions of more than 10 former highly-ranked officials, has been trending on Sina Weibo under the hashtag “AlwaysontheRoad,” garnering more than 420,000 page views as of press time. Comments about the documentary identify it as a "serious film" that "should be watched by all officials.”

Chinese media has also praised the documentary. People’s Daily said that its analysis “dissected typical corruption cases and told vivid stories of disciplinary inspections,” adding that it has “profound pedagogical meaning.”

The eight-part documentary begins with the story of several corrupt officials, including Zhou Benshun, former Party chief in Hebei province, Bai Enpei, former Party chief in Yunnan province and Li Chuncheng, former Deputy Party chief in Sichuan province. In the first part, Bai confesses his crimes to the public, which involve illegally accepting - both personally and through his wife - nearly 250 million RMB in cash and goods.

Other details of the corruption were also revealed in the documentary, including the fact that Bai’s wife, who is very fond of jade, hinted to an entrepreneur that he should buy her a jade bracelet worth 15 million RMB. Such bracelets are common in Bai’s house; investigators spent more than 10 days sorting out such bribes.

The film crew visited 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to shoot segments about more than 40 corruption cases, interviewing over 70 experts and disciplinary inspection officials.
