An online platform will be officially launched by the Beijing police on Oct. 1 to optimize the intake of emergency calls, Beijing News reported on Sept. 30.

The app, named "Beijing 110," currently offers four functional modules: "I want to report something to the police," "Police stations nearby," "FAQ" and "Personal center." Those receiving the 110 emergency calls will deal with them online in real time, connecting callers with the public security dispatch system according to each caller's actual situation.

Beijingers can access the platform by downloading the "Beijing 110" app, or through the "Beijing 110" module embedded in the "360 mobile phone guard." At present, the app can be used on Android systems, and an IOS version is under development.

Real name registration is required after downloading the app. On the "I want to report something to the police" page, people can type in a time, location and description of the incident being reported. Users can also upload a maximum of nine photos and three short videos of the event. Under certain circumstances, police officers will start a conversation with the person reporting the incident to ask about relevant details.

With the release of the new platform, Beijing police have also issued a reminder that people should only call 110 in case of emergencies. The online platform is intended for the reporting of crimes, public security incidents and criminal clues in the Beijing area.
