"National treasures have come to our hometown!" This was the news that greeted citizens of Ordos in Inner Mongolia on Sept. 26, as a set of female giant panda twins arrived to make their home there.

Qiqiao and Qixi, the giant panda sisters, traveled from their birthplace in Chengdu to their new home in Ordos by plane. Their human chaperone revealed that the twins were in a stable physical and mental state during the journey.

The twin pandas were born on China's traditional Qixi Festival in 2014. Their father is a giant panda who used to live in Atlanta, U.S., and their mother is Qifu, the first giant panda born after the Wenchuan earthquake.

According to Ordos Safari, the pandas will be accomodated in a special villa made just for them. Covering an area of 3,200 square meters, the panda house consists of a feeding area, an indoor area, an outdoor area, a fresh bamboo storage room and a panda kitchen. Heating and humidifying facilities are installed to make the pandas as comfortable as possible.

A team has been set up to take care of the twin pandas. Three breeders and two veterinarians are responsible for their daily life. Special vehicles will transport fresh bamboo from the supply base regularly, and the safari venue will also plant bamboo in its greenhouse for emergency use.

After a brief adjustment period, the sisters will be available to meet tourists during the upcoming National Day holiday.
