An English textbook for college students, published by Peking University Press, was found to contain over 80 grammatical, typographical and source material errors. The publisher has confirmed a number of these errors, and said that the books will be recalled from Beijing bookstores.
A university professor said that the errors have caused trouble for those charged with teaching the material, as teachers need to spend extra time explaining the mistakes to their students.
“I reported this to the college, but did not get an answer from the authoritative department,” the professor added.
An employee of the publisher said that, after a preliminary examination, some of the errors have been confirmed. The publisher is now communicating with the authors of the textbook's passages.
“We will not send out the books we have in stock, and we are informing dealers to pull those still available on bookshelves,” the employee promised.
