By Alex Farley (People's Daily Online)    00:27, September 15, 2016

An altercation took place between students and Urban Management officers (Chengguan) in the city of Fuyang, located in eastern China’s Anhui province. According to a report from thepaper.com, the officers were on patrol when they noticed a vendor selling goods in Fuyang Normal University’s southern gate. The officers went over to move the vendor as he was illegally blocking the way. Though it is still unclear as to how to the officials went about clearing the passage, the process was recorded by a nearby student from the university.

Reportedly, the officers told the student to delete the video. When the student refused, tensions escalated quickly and the officers began beating him. Soon, two other students got involved and were beaten as well. A video posted to thepaper.com shows a number of citizens getting involved in the tussle. Throughout the video, people can be heard hollering, “Chengguan are beating people!”

The details of the matter are still unclear as the case is currently undergoing investigation. However, the officers involved have been suspended. One student hospitalized and two others went through body examination. It is believed they sustained no major injuries. Authorities from the local law enforcement department extended their apologies to the students, stating that they will handle the case according to the law.
