Sichuan man stands by wife through 8-year coma, helps her regain consciousness 'through love'

Celebration in the ward.

A near-miracle recently took place in China’s southwestern Sichuan province. A woman named Yang Yingze recently awakened from an eight-month coma on the 60th anniversary of her wedding to loyal husband Liu Duocheng.

Liu and Yang were both students at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1959. They got married in Chengdu not long after their graduation. Unfortunately, Yang stumbled when getting out of bed in 2009, which led to her losing the ability to walk. Later, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Never losing hope that Yang would recover, Liu made seven videos showing pictures from different periods of the couple's life together, all set to Yang's favorite songs. Every day he played the videos for her on a tablet or mobile phone.

Liu works on the video on computer.

Nevertheless, Yang's deteriorating health caused her to enter a coma in January. Liu decided that he still wanted to hold a ceremony celebrating the 60th anniversary of their marriage, in the hope that his wife could somehow feel his love.

The celebration was held on Aug. 31 in Yang's hospital ward. After Liu sent a bouquet of 99 roses to Yang, a nurse claimed to have seen tears flowing from Yang's eyes. Three days later, Yang miraculously woke up and responded to the nurses. Liu believes his wife definitely heard his voice during the anniversary celebration.

Currently, Yang is once again in a coma, and doctors have expressed grave concern over her condition. However, Liu is still patiently waiting for his wife's recovery, hoping that they can be together again.
